SUNN O))) recently completed battles in UK, Ireland and Athens, to great success. I would like to thank all of the people who came to witness us, especially in Newcastle, Belfast, London and Athens. The shows were our best ever! SUNN O))) performed as a power trio of guitars & moog, with some guest appearances. Hail to McGrail, Rehberg & Csihar for their sonic blessings... Rehberg busted his laptop in London while swinging it behind Anderson's amps for feedback!!!!!!! Csihar invoked gods of wavelava at every instance and McGrail brought down thunderbolts, and brought up boiling energy for Leviathan in the case of the Bristol feedbath. Massive amounts of thank and respects to the kind folks who put us on and put us up. Also last but certainly not least, a high level of respect to Tos and Andrew for their work as crew, this sort of thing couldnt happen with out you all. Respect to Tony Sylvester and Savage Pencil for their help and work on everything. Fuck ouzo, hail DoomLord.
On December 9th SUNN O))) recorded our first Peel Session, sadly posthumously of Peel, but commissioned by him before his passing. SUNN O))) "CANDLEWOLF OF THE GOLDEN CHALICE" (19'30") PEEL SESSION broadcasts live on 21st December 2004 on BBC1. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/alt/johnpeel/ for more details. This track is a fusion of live old and new SUNN O))) approaches, with power trio riffing combined with a significantly blissful drone section featuring harmonium & tamboura! The track should be archived on the BBC1 site for some time, and we intend to release it as a tour only 12" in the near future (probably for the march-april dates).
SUNN O))) has been tracking for the next album, BLACK1, at Scott Reeder's studio in the CA desert. Expect dowtuned primitive sci-fi weirdness. We plan to have this mixed by summertime and a release sometime in the early autumn if all continues to go well.
I spent 3 days at Southern Studio in London last week working on the next GINNUNGAGAP release, together with the talents of Alexander Tucker and Anthony Sylvester. This record will most likely be titled "Remeindre" and will be released on Allison Schnackenberg's "Latitudes" imprint sometime before summer. 4 tracks of indelible ambient waveform were completed. The instrumentation this time is entirely acoustic except a farfisa, and the mood is some sort of deep eastern river crossing procession. Absolute bliss.
LOTUS EATERS first 7" has now been reissued by Drone (see below). We are still in the production phase of the "Wormwolf" album as well... should see the light sometime in 2005.
KHANATE have suffered a few setbacks over the autumn including a broken leg and an arrest. Nevertheless, we have been preparing a new MLP of material titled "Capture & Release" for Hydrahead. The CD version of this should come with the long-awaited "Dead" videoclip, produced by Alan Dubin. We're moving into a more tonal field with this material... expect two long tracks of unorthodox harmony amongst the savageness.
Hail to DarkThrone for telling the ALARM awards to eat a bag of shit. Their integrity is something admirable which we should all keep in mind.
