| Buried by time & dust... from the dark past. Found these images on a doom spastics web forum... had forgotten about this one. Live vids via Plotkin's demented eye. Classic cover photo which was copied by a certain Swedish band (and other's in KHNTs wake), and brilliant (absolutely and incredibly astute) band portraiture by Dennis Tyfus. This piece was limited to 120 copies and sold on tours, took 2 tours to sell through completely if I recall correctly!

The challenging output of Japanese composer Ryoji Ikeda places emphasis on complex A/V terrain, with compositions deriving from a fascination with data, sound and light. Mika Vainio is best known as one half of the Finnish electronic duo Pan Sonic, and through his connections to the pioneering Sähkö record label he co-founded in 1993. Produced in association with the BBC. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - RYOJI IKEDA The award winning work of Japanese electronic composer and visual artist, Ryoji Ikeda, is highly imaginative, challenging and innovative - concerned primarily with the manipulation of noise and tone in a variety of 'raw' states and working with frequencies at the edges of human hearing as well as intense visual representation. Aside from his work as a solo artist, Ikeda has also collaborated with others including Carsten Nicolai and art collective Dumb Type. test pattern [live set], the latest audiovisual work in Ikeda's datamatics series, presents intense flickering black and white imagery, which floats and convulses in darkness to a stark and powerful, highly synchronised soundtrack. Through a real–time computer programme, test pattern converts Ikeda's audio signal patterns into tightly synchronised barcode patterns on screen. The velocity of the moving images is ultra–fast, some hundreds of frames per second, so that the work provides a performance test for the audio and visual devices, as well as a response test for the audience's perceptions. The highly influential producer's input has been extensive - co-founding the pioneering Sähkö label in 1992, working with Ilpo Väisänen as Pan Sonic, releasing his music on labels including Touch and Wavetrap and producing music with the likes of Björk, Chicks on Speed and Suicide's Alan Vega. http://phinnweb.org/vainio
| Thorr's Hammer flyer 1994 | 29 March 2010 | |
| Bill Herzog dug this up, flyer from the first ever Thorr's Hammer concerts in Seattle way back in 1994...
The power of Kinkos on the old US underground cannot be understated. No that wasnt the Graveland side project playing. In fact Capricornus (who played all of the instruments in the Polish TH) didnt release anything until later. At some point in this murky primordial age we decided to add a second R to our moniker to get closer to UR and MJOLNIR, but also to make a further differentiation from their band's strong political agenda. But, seems like the name was spelled different back then. And photoshop was obviously a new toy too.... Ah, the good old days.

Selected press from 2008: “An unforgettable end to the summer festival season.” – Spin “ATP NY was the most enjoyable festival experience I’ve ever had in my life.” – Pitchfork “Most of the bands seem to be strolling the grounds with the fans, unlike most festivals, where the stars seem to hide in their trailers...it’s quaint, unique location has provided the event an easy-going summer camp vibe...ATP was a great example of what a festival should be- manageable, full of cool people and boasting a solid line-up...it was a pretty perfect weekend.” - Billboard Selected press from 2009: "ATP is an animal all of its own. There is an energy that is positive, creative and palpable. Musicians wander about the grounds, checking out the bands. The sound system is killer. " - Brooklyn Vegan "ATP is, in short, what indie rock was always supposed to be...ATP is indie rock at it's best." - The New Yorker "A weekend of musical delights. ATP remains by far the best organised, friendliest festival around." - Rolling Stone "Essentially a perfect weekend...Well done, ATP." - Entertainment Weekly "A festival experience like no other...Lines are non-existent; it's easy to find a spot up-close to the stage to watch your favourite band; beer is plentiful; there's seating outside by the lake; and artists wander about with the normal folk." - Spin "The year's finest festival. If anything, this year felt more celebratory than 2008." - Stereogum "The most focused music festival on the planet. The line-up is unique, the atmosphere is crazily mellow...Not many festivals are interested in making diehard music fans feel appreciated, or even necessary, and ATP makes that its whole point." - Fader "Nothing like your normal three day music fest. Artistic integrity is the word of the day." - ABC News "Felt a little like the coolest prom ever...an all-out sensory overload...we'll be down for it again this time next year." - GQ "A kind of utopia was successfully brought off last weekend at ATP...an incredible adventure in cultural escapism." - New York magazine ABOUT THE VENUE Kutshers is a country club based in upstate New York, less than 2 hours drive from New York City. The club is set in 1200 acres of beautiful countryside in the magnificent Catskills mountains. The resort comprises of a hotel with several bars/nightclubs and cafes/restaurants. Plus various other amenities including a swimming pool, golf course, tennis courts, health spa and much much more. The event takes place over 3 days, from Friday 3rd September to Sunday 5th September 2009 inclusive at Kutshers. Performances starting in the mid-afternoon, with around 35 acts set to play live across the weekend with DJ sets until late into the night, comedy, movies and more. There is dining, bars and other amenities onsite. Performances all take place indoors at the intimate venues within the complex, so you have no need to fear about the weather! ABOUT ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES All Tomorrow's Parties has been promoting festivals and concerts throughout the world for the last ten years. It was founded in the wake of Belle and Sebastian’s Bowlie Weekender, with Mogwai curating in the unusual setting of Pontins Holiday Camp, Camber Sands. Since then the festival has appeared every year and has expanded across the globe continuing to set itself apart from large scale corporate festivals by staying intimate and fan-friendly. The line-ups are chosen by significant bands or artists which results in eclectic events that combine performances by legendary and influential acts with appearances by the latest crop of experimental artists from any (and every) musical genre. The festival has become more successful with every passing year, and ATP events have taken place in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia, with past curators including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Mike Patton, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Sonic Youth, Slint, and Tortoise. For ten years ATP has set itself apart from other festivals by embracing seemingly disparate artistic genres, with events featuring art exhibitions, cinema programmes, spoken word performances and stand up comedy. It has spawned an acclaimed concert series (Don't Look Back), a record label (ATP Recordings), and a feature length documentary about the festivals from Warp X, titled All Tomorrow’s Parties, out now on DVD. | Richard Serra @ Galerie Lelong | 24 March 2010
| 01/04 - 15/05/2010
| Simona Barbera in Bergamo | 19 March 2010
| Temporary Black Space presents
SATURN OVER SUNSET Saturn over Sunset is configured in the artistic evolution of Simona Barbera, as the possible relationship between her research and a space, TBS, strongly structural in its connotation. The artist reintroduces the necessity of the sound element in art, getting to create complex experiences through connections between sounds and images. The sound-light, or setting-sound, interactions originate in the investigation of, for example, La Monte Young and his “Dream Houses”. These concepts are put into concrete form through acoustic and environmental installations, with a very strong physical value. In joining the visual with the sonic an interdependence appears and it couldn’t be otherwise. Even though the wall drawings are pictorial, their nature has to be sought in the ritual dimension they obtein in the whole and in the act of production. The corporeal participation impacts on both who enters in the setting and the artist in the act of composing and it’s translatable in terms of conversion or progress. This is the key of the entire project: a route or motion towards an elsewhere, somehow enlightening. The order of the spaces suggests indeed the presence of levels or states flowing together towards extremes such as light and fade or panic darkness. The movement from dimness to light or vice versa is one of the topics of the various drawings; recurring in the luciferous figures and in the Vapori(Vapours), as a sort of fading images. Also in the music there are intimations to this kind of motion: through feedbacks described as total blindnesses or the reading of text-descriptions in a voice-over. The first visual impact provided by the exhibition correspond with the metaphorical incarnation of a presence that introduces the whole pathway: a sort of manifesto. Consecutively, pictures evolve this concept through figural quotations and allusions or traces. In the following room, the production of wall paintings on scraped surfaces implied a tecnique different from that of previous interventions. The process and the result depend on the dialogue with the space and they have unexpected effects. Last but not the least: DARK AMBIENT. The pure sound, without visual clues. Its power allows a purely corporal perception through the application of low frequencies, creating real vibrations of the space in the evolution of drones. * FRIDAY 19 MARZO OPENING with LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE from 19:00 TEMPORARY BLACK SPACE Via Mayr 2, Bergamo (Città Alta) Italy TEL/ FAX +39 035-216193 www.t-blackspace.com *Info Emma Panza/ +393348646255 Mail/ emma@t-blackspace.com pic: Simona Barbera, Vapour 2010

| BAMBI O))) | 16 March 2010 | |
| email of the week
Dear Mr Stephen O'Malley I'm a 26 Paris based French "artist" ?, working with photographs & video, & I have recently discover "Bambi", the famous Walt Disney production directed by David D. Hand. As I was enjoying these amazing 1940's drawings by Disney, I was in the same time disturbed by the dialogs, & the fact that Bambi and his boring mother were both talking like humans. So I first thought it should be intersting to watch it again with the sound shut off. I almost did this, but during the first part of the film, this new Bambi without the sound reminded me of Fantasia, wich is also a damned film. And I started to listen Monoliths & Dimensions as I was watching Bambi. I've been so surprised by the coherence of the ensemble that I've decided (without any authorisation) to re-edit the movie, keeping the principal scenes so that my cut is 40 minutes shorter than the original version, without any original sounds but only your music, very long extracts from Monoliths & Dimensions. I am absolutely not trying to ask you for any authorisation to uses your sounds ! I just did this because I was curious to see what could happened : I think it's kind of troubling, how the Disney masks disappears and the animals are revealing themselves, wilds again. As a "disantropomorphisation" comes out of this. And because Bambi is a really sad and dark film who fear human presence (hunters), and more than this, absolutely focused on nature, I think the music fit increadibly well to the film. I know it is impossible for me to use both formats (Disney & Sunn O))) ) together, to do what I want & furthermore that you may not be interested in watching this proposition for some good reason like you don't want any images added to your sounds (And I understand this pretty well, don't worry, I already had to remove Aethenor sounds of a Diaporama a few month ago). So I'm just telling you, if you just want to see the film , I can send you a dvd so that you can tell me if you liked the proposition or not. Anyway, I'd be crazy someday to see you at "La Cinemathèque Française" performing music for "Bambi", or any other films like George Melies ones, or even more those from Segundo de Chomon, wich are way more drone than Melies... Thank you very much for reading this/ Hope you'll find it interesting to watch... Kindest Regards, Thomas James Pictures from the film as an example of what it feel / Renamed "L'Histoire d'une Vie dans Les Bois" as the first novel of Felix Salten was in 1923 : Bambi, Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde.
